![]() If it wasn't an upgrade we'd have been disappointed, so I put these on an even level for what they are. Part 2 was able to implement some aspects that they wanted to include in Part 1 but didn't have the time/money/inspiration for. In the same vein the gameplay in part 2 is clearly an upgrade on Part 1, but again it's comparing chalk and cheese. I think they didn't quite love up to what they were going for, but that's only because their goal was so lofty. So even though I enjoyed Part 1 more than Part 2, I think Part 2 was more ambitious in it's scope, and more unique and meaningful in it's themes. I love her because she's flawed - she's clearly a selfish jerk, but she's a selfish jerk with a heart, and I couldn't help but care about her. Turning Abby from a villain into a protagonist without it feeling forced is no easy task, and for the most-part they succeeded ( sans Zebra). The while game is an emotiona dive into the pits of Rage and Despair. It's much harder to get us simultaneously in the emotional space of an enraged, revenge-minded mass Ellie bent on avenging her mentor, and to then do a full 180 and get us to identify with the person who committed these crimes against us. It's very easy to make us feel a connection to an old man who's rediscovering his emotions and a young girl who swears like a sailor - especially when the direction of the story is taking us up the mountain toward the light of hope. Having said that, I think Part 2 was a much more ambitious project. Likewise the Parrallels between Ellie and Abby were sometimes a little too on-the-nose and I found it jarring - the Zebra scene being the primary example. We were told to care about her because she is a trope, not because we've necessarily formed an emotional connection ourselves. I wasn't sold on Dina - I wanted more character development and emotional connection before " Pregnant: Must protect". The other thing is that I think Part 1 was a little more polished. As such a good chunk of Part 2 was really jot enjoyable, but it was obviously very well done. This is partly because Part 1 is about Hope, which is an uplifting emotion, while part 2 is about rage, which is an uncomfortable emotion. Literally the best scenes in the game are the ones with Ellie and Joel (no surprise there) and we're forced fed a trans love scene cause it's "art". Thing is the game play was amazing sure but the story was dogshit. It's as if in the last of us 1 while Joel is torturing the 2 guys to tell him where Ellie is he decides "you kno what fuck her I cba let's just stop fighting and have peace " it's like wtf was the entire story about then? What was the point of developing the character if it ends in a "o well revenge is bad bye bye" it's so anti climatic and people here are loving lost of us 2. She killer a whole pregnant ass girl and tortured others to tell the truth. Yet people prefer a pure revenge story that I already knew what I was getting my self into after 30min playing the game? Like really? She goes through her friend's killings dogs (manipulative tactic) by the creators to then letting Abby go which literally makes 0 sense. You see the whole story revolved around them which made it special. Seth wishes her good luck before returning to the pub's kitchen.Įllie, not convinced of his apology, gives the sandwiches to Jesse instead, citing she doesn't want something from a "bigot".Never knew how many people like a boring ass revenge story? Last of us 1 was a deep story about Joel not wanting to have daughter feelings for another girl while also trying to deliver her safely. When Ellie is reluctant to accept them, Maria does so on her behalf. To help show that he was sorry, Seth made steak sandwiches for her. He claims that he was drunk and didn't mean what he said. The next day, Maria makes Seth apologize to Ellie in the local bar. Maria and Tommy stop the altercation and take Seth outside to speak with him. Though Dina consents, Seth calls her a homophobic slur, causing Ellie to confront him, which leads to Joel pushing Seth in Ellie's defense. On March 1, 2038, the evening of the winter dance, Seth witnesses Dina and Ellie kissing on the dance floor and asks them to stop, as there are children present. He continued to keep watch on the main gate until bandits attacked, where he succeeded in helping defend the dam. Tommy soon recognizes Joel and welcomes him inside, relieving Seth. As Joel and Ellie attempt to open the plant's gates, Seth, alongside Tommy, appear at the top of the wall, training their rifles on the pair. ![]() ![]() The Last Of Us Part 2 Spoiler-Free Reviewġ2 June 2020 Events of The Last of Us ĭuring the fall of 2033, Seth served on guard duty for a group repairing the hydroelectric dam at the nearby power plant, under Maria and Tommy's command. ![]()
